Round Lake
Overview
Round Lake State Park offers a peaceful retreat into Northern Idaho's lush woodlands, providing a classic outdoor experience. Centered around a beautiful 58-acre glacier-carved lake, this park captures the essence of a tranquil forest getaway. It is a place where visitors can disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with the rhythms of nature. The atmosphere is exceptionally quiet and intimate, often characterized by the scent of fresh pine and the distant calls of local wildlife echoing across the water.
Location & Surroundings
Located just ten miles south of Sandpoint in Sagle, Idaho, the park is nestled deep within a dense canopy of western larch, hemlock, and western red cedar trees. The lake itself is the central focal point, providing a calm, glass-like mirror for the surrounding steep-sloped forest. Because the water is protected from heavy winds by the surrounding terrain, it remains a serene environment ideal for reflective mornings on the dock and quiet evening walks along the timbered shoreline.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features a variety of campsites, including several designated spaces with water and electric hookups for RV travelers. While these sites lean toward a rustic aesthetic rather than a luxury resort, they provide essential comforts such as modern restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station for self-contained units. For those bringing small boats or kayaks, there is a well-maintained boat launch, though the lake preserves its peacefulness with a strictly enforced no-wake rule for electric motors and manual paddles.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Trappers Trail, an accessible two-mile loop that circles the entire lake and offers excellent birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities. Fishing is a major draw for visitors, as the lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and also holds perch and bass. For a change of scenery, the vibrant community of Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille are just a short drive north, providing access to local dining, boutique shopping, and much larger scale water recreation.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for nature-focused RVers who prioritize a quiet, wooded setting over the amenities of a bustling commercial park. Due to the natural layout and size of the campsite pads, it is most comfortably suited for those traveling in smaller travel trailers or camper vans rather than massive big rigs. It serves as a perfect destination for families or couples looking to enjoy hiking and paddling in a safe, scenic, and manageable natural environment.

Lots are close with no privacy, there are a few that have privacy. Very quiet except for the very busy passing cars on the main road. Bathroom with showers are nice, they do not supply ANY soap. Bring your own hand soap. They only supply water and a hand blower to dry your hands. Most people were great. Friendly people. Single camping to families to retirement age. I would not bring dogs. It says dog friendly however, it takes more then just making a dog pooping are to meet "Dog Friendly" in my opinion. I think it would be great if they made a lot into a fenced dog play area.

Absolutely delightful camping experience here!! The sites are large and well-maintained. We were in a tent/camper van and very comfortable on the gravel pad. The lake is beautiful and the visitor center was very kind and helpful to us. They have boat rentals (canoe, SUP and kayak) for ~15$ per hour available until about 8pm. People were fishing from boats and off the dock. There was a small swimming area with a small sandy beach as well. The visitor center had lots of interesting things for kids to do and learn about while staying there.

Trails are really kept nice. Lots of places to stop and let your dog in the water. Easy hike.

They're always very kind and knowledgeable here. There's tent camping with showers, bathrooms and potable water. I'm not an RVer but they've got RV sites and was told they're by building "glamping" treehouses so check back! There's also day parking spaces to swim, fish or picnic for the day only. We need to keep our National and State Parks funded for future generations!! Remember for our kids and grandkids 💙

I love the trail around the lake. Great way to exercise the dog and each section has its own unique features.
